What is GentleWave and What are the Benefits?

Gentlewave

GentleWave is an innovative technology that is revolutionizing endodontic treatment. Root canal therapy is a common procedure to treat an infected or at-risk tooth. While traditional root canal procedures are effective, GentleWave increases the effectiveness and improves outcomes for patients, making it more likely that the tooth can be saved and will remain healthy for the long term.

What is Root Canal Therapy?

To understand GentleWave technology, it helps to understand root canal therapy. The inside of a tooth contains tissue called dental pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels and nerves that are integral in the development of the tooth. When bacteria invades the root canal portion of the tooth containing the dental pulp, it can lead to an infection. Root canal therapy is the procedure for treating an infected tooth or a tooth that is at risk for infection.

Root canal therapy involves removal of the infected tissue and a thorough cleaning of the inner chamber of the tooth. The root canal is then filled with a rubbery material that is resistant to infection, providing structural support for the tooth.

How Does GentleWave Technology Work?

When GentleWave technology is used in root canal therapy, a combination of sound waves and fluids flush out the infection and remove the dental pulp from the tooth. The sound waves move the fluids throughout the root canal to reach every crevice and corner. The name GentleWave refers to the way the flush of fluids gently clears out the inside of the tooth.

Benefits of GentleWave Technology

GentleWave technology offers many benefits over traditional root canal therapy, such as:

  • Effective. GentleWave technology has been shown to be more effective than traditional root canal therapy because it reaches even the smallest areas of the root canal so that no infection and no dental pulp remains that could lead to reinfection.
  • Minimally invasive. Traditional root canal therapy uses tools and methods that are more invasive than GentleWave technology, which only uses gentle flushing of fluids to clear out the root canal and remove infected tissue.
  • Faster recovery. The less invasive nature of GentleWave leads to a faster recovery than traditional root canal therapy. Patients have fewer side effects and are able to return to their regular activities sooner.
  • Reduced pain and anesthesia. GentleWave is less painful than traditional root canal therapy, which means less anesthesia is required during the procedure and less pain medication is required afterwards.
  • Better long term outcome. GentleWave technology improves the outcome of root canal therapy. It increases the chances that the tooth will remain healthy for the long term with fewer chances of reinfection and reduces the need for endodontic retreatment.

Who is a Good Candidate for GentleWave Technology?

Most patients who have a tooth that is either infected or at risk of infection are good candidates for GentleWave Technology. An infected tooth is characterized by sensitivity or pain resonating from the tooth. An at-risk tooth may have a crack or some other form of damage that could allow bacteria to invade the root canal, making the tooth susceptible to infection.

If you have a tooth that has been treated unsuccessfully with root canal therapy, GentleWave technology could be the solution that will save the tooth and preserve it for the long term. Small nooks and crannies of the root canal are difficult to see and clean out, but GentleWave fluids reach even the tiniest of crevices.
